- Another sign of an autocracy are the people clamoring for favor with the dictator; doing things they know will be pleasing to the dictator to gain his favor which helps them keep the positions of power they have, which they probably attained without being qualified for, but also gives them hope for positions of greater power. It is in Autocracy that power draws the corrupt because in an autocracy merit and qualifications and skills do not matter, so those that are most power-hungry regardless of ability have a chance to rise.
