- While ICE tears through American communities in the name of catching dangerous criminals, its own arrest data tells a different story. Nationally, more than a third of people deported from detention had no criminal record at all — not even a pending charge. In Chattanooga, the majority of those handed to ICE were picked up for traffic stops and DUIs. Thousands of people have been swept up, processed, and in many cases released, because ICE is casting a wide net for volume, not doing the targeted work it claims. Competent law enforcement doesn't need to arrest thousands of the wrong people to occasionally catch a few of the right ones.
